After the Sneak Peeks in June, Carle tonight officially unveiled the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrids. Both sedan and hatchback are being shown. The Corolla Hybrids promise to excite the market with an impressive Hybrid powertrain providing up to 1,228 km mileage on one tank — with a starting price of $98,000 with $28,000 COE.

What we can see from the design standpoint, the new Corolla adopts a significantly more sporting, dynamic and distinctive design with more striking frontal styling. Its angles are sharper and more expressive when compared to the 2019 Corolla, commanding greater attention when on the road. toyota-corolla-hatchback-hybrid1-front

It Adopts the TNGA Platform

Also, this new generation of the Toyota Corolla is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) which was applied to the C-HR, Camry, Lexus IC, and Lexus IS models. It delivers a truly satisfying drive compared to the previous generations.  What you get is a 60% more rigid body and low centre of gravity that all come together to reduce body roll when cornering, while the double wishbone suspension absorbs shocks more effectively, for a smoother ride. Even the driving position has been optimised, to help cut down fatigue on long journeys.

Now, lets us take a closer comparison between the Hatchback and the Sedan.

The choices of new grilles and front ends vary by body type, providing different confident and sporty looks to fit different styles. Meanwhile, a new headlight design is consistent.

If we look at the hatchback, its looks bold and dynamic. Its wide front and low bonnet give it a streamlined look, which is enhanced by a wide, striking grille and distinctive J Shaped LED headlamps with integral Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The surround to the large, trapezoidal lower grille projects powerfully forward. It is less pointed and more vertical than before, resulting in a reduction to the vehicle’s front overhang of some 20 mm.

For the sedan, we can see the aerodynamic lines of Corolla Sedan elegantly express dimension of style that delivers a strong, self-assured presence of modern prestige. The raised engine hood and deeply sculptured bumper corners on Corolla Sedan create a strong 3-dimensional appearance. The wide grille combines with the headlamps and trapezoid bumper structure to express movement while always presenting a strong, solid stance on the road.

Along the side of the Hatchback, the beltline kinks upwards towards the rear for a more dynamic look. The rear is more rounded and has a more compact look, thanks to the faster rear windscreen rake and prominent haunches above the rear wheel arches. The overall height of the new hatchback has been reduced by some 25 mm, whilst the cowl height of the vehicle is a significant 47 mm lower. The result is a sleeker shape and a more attractive, lower bonnet, which in turn improves safety by giving the driver a clearer forward view. It is 40mm longer than the Auris it replaces, , which makes it roomier.

Stylish and practical, the Corolla Sedan is characterised by refined lines which flow from the low nose to its spacious boot. On closer analysis, the new Corolla sedan measures 4630mm from nose to tail – a substantial 255mm longer than the hatch and 10mm up on the outgoing sedan, which gives it a more compact look. The new 2020 Toyota Corolla sedan has a longer wheelbase than the Corolla hatch (2700mm vs 2640mm) which helps smooth things out a little. The outer mirrors have been relocated from the triangle panel to the door panel, thus contributing to securing excellent visibility around the front pillar.

We just love the newly Designed LED Tail Lights of the Hatchback!

The new rear design is more rounded than before, strengthening the visual relationship between the front and rear of the vehicle. The light guides of the full-LED tail lights emphasise the car’s extra width.  Also, The tailgate is constructed in resin to both make possible the design’s complex curvature, and save weight. The Aero fins in the tail lights reduce wind noise.

As for the Sedan, the rear design is more different from the hatchback. Widely protruding rear combination lamps and bumper corners are combined with the tapered body to exhibit a wide and imposing stance.

Modern and Layered Interior Design with Custom Built Leather Seats

Similar to the C-HR crossover, the Corolla Hatchback’s dashboard has a layered design with a floating infotainment system, and Toyota claims that the lower profile of the upper dashboard and the wider centre console provides an open, harmonious feel.  Matte silver and piano black accents, coupled with optional contrast stitching, add a premium look and feel, while more uniform materials and the removal of unnecessary switchgear lettering contribute to a cleaner design.

The front hip point has also been lowered and the cushioning of the seats revised, providing a more natural posture and a better driving position together with the steering wheel, gearlever and pedals. In both the 2020 Corollas, you are able to customize your seats with your preferred leather design either in single or dual tone configuration.

Translated to km / litre, it is 23.8 km / litre for the hatchback and 28.5 km / litre for the sedan.  In addition, it provides a calmer, more responsible driving experience than ever before.
